Family and Relationships
Indian youth is going through a transition. They are affected by many things like the sudden opening of the economy and excessive materialism and consumerism, depression and substance abuse, changing lifestyles. How do families support their young in facing these problems and dilemmas? What are young people’s attitudes to family values, marriage, careers, religion, etc? Has the change from joint to extended and nuclear families brought any changes in their lives? How do young people respond to family restrictions on marriage partners, lifestyles, etc.? Even the concept of family is changing with some young people not wanting a formal marriage, but choosing live-in relationships. Many young married couples opt out of having children and others preferring to adopt or choosing to delay having children. This community will focus on the changing location of the family in the Indian and Asian context.
