A brief introduction to Yuva Shakti and some of the wonderful people involved in this project.
Briefly stated, the Purkal Youth Development Society is a registered charity dedicated to enhancing the lives of disadvantaged rural youth through education and empowering women through skill development.
We work in a rural village outside of Dehradun called Purkal located in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains in Northern India. Many families in the area lack basic education and skills, and suffer from various cultural and social problems that keep them locked in a continuous cycle of poverty. The families often struggle to survive on a low, single income and have little opportunity to improve their situation. The children do no have access to properly managed primary schools, good role models or support services and as a result, lack the motivation and opportunity for a better life.
